The international marketing program targets approximately 50 countries on five continents. The program is primarily funded with federal monies and devises strategic trade management programs tailored to meet each export market’s special needs. The international marketing program regularly manages export trade issues and coordinates and obtains research on a range of subjects including consumer and trade attitudes, competitive production and export protocols.
In 2005, the federal government provided the commission with $4.1 million in federal funds for promoting in overseas markets. Marketing programs are conducted in approximately 50 export markets with 15 overseas representatives managing those programs, as a result of which consumer awareness of, and preference for, California grapes is at record levels in the major export markets.
- Works with U.S. government agencies to ensure the table grape industry's needs are addressed in trade negotiations with foreign countries whether in bilateral meetings, multilateral meetings, or at the World Trade Organization.
- Recent trade negotiation efforts resulted in both the elimination of the cold treatment required for New Zealand and a reduction in the number of bunches required for inspections, and in the elimination of a secure containment requirement for shipments to Australia.
- Works to reduce and eliminate tariffs globally by working with U.S. government agencies both in the U.S. and in U.S. missions overseas to bring California table grape tariffs down.
